another wink of day creases
from the lofty dappled spaces
glowing in twilight's splendor
through the slightly opened door
the soft melancholy matures slowly
that once emblazed the black immensity
when the dainty streaks of light
herald the beaming yonder's knight
the cold hazy light dissolves the stars
seeping in through the earth's reservoir
into the ocean of green shrubs and trees
and a horde of butterflies and bees
the hills are drenched with crystal dew
then softly glow with flaming hue
when the first beams of dawn
repaint the earth's cocoon
the sleepy mountains' crest
serenely swim out of blue mist
greeting the royal sunbeams
with jolly bird's cheers
the morning beauty liquifies
before my thirsty eyes
catching me half a dream
as the splendid spectacle
embrace my captivated soul
SUMMER MEMORIES
Restless winds blow tree leaves
Strewing them on the ground with wisps
The sweltering heat crawls all over
Like a plague of locusts in September
In the splash of wave and warmth of breeze
Squirrels scamper across from tree to tree
Climbing up and down like chimpanzees
For nuts to scrounge and corn cob kernels
Mockingbirds and sparrows flit about
While buttercups exude their wildest hues
The wind caresses in undulating grace
The hushing leaves of piñon pine trees
The cry of chirping thrushes
Resonate the song of nature's bliss
As gleaming spires of lemongrass
Proclaim it's genealogic class
Tide of memories sweep the heart
Of love and lovers fallen apart
As summer memories held so dear
Overhelm a soul inured to tears
the sun breaks through the eastern sky
peeping through the soft fleecy clouds
it stifles a yawn and gently simpers
then blows a kiss to the sleeping world
the somnolent mountains spring to life
like the dainty flowers in bloom
little birds perched on tree branches
chirp in unison to greet the royal sun
the sweet scent of red rose blossoms
fill the morning air with heavenly perfume
while bees hum seductive tunes to the flowers
as they flap their wings with the butterflies
the sun gives a lazy wave of greeting
as i walk through the little heaven
anticipation consumes my senses
as nature unfolds its pristine masterpiece
she lays the white cloth
on the ground of grass
and opens the cans of coke
with gentle flicks
on a little narra table
she sets the plates
each with three hanging rice
and a quarter of lechon
while he broils some meat
on a rack over hot coals
the heat of the sun
and the coals before him
scorching his cheeks and forehead
smiles paint the little faces
of their children running against
the count of hide and seek
with the other kids in the plaza
as the embers dry to the cooling sun
she calls them all to gather round
hands washed, faces flashing
they say a little prayer
before partaking
from the small banquet of love
